April Thomas is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who is passionate about developing strong patient relationships to increase the quality of care. She obtained an undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a masters degree from Creighton University in Omaha. She has spent much of her career in community health settings, providing primary care to high-risk patients with limited resources, which ingrained in her that our physical health cannot be separated from our mental, emotional, spiritual, or socioeconomic well being. April practices integrative care, a whole-person approach that acknowledges the complex factors influencing health, wellness, and disease and elevates the partnership between patient and provider. Integrative care encourages the use of evidence-based lifestyle and natural therapies whenever possible, to improve patient safety and keep healthcare costs low. So April pairs the pharmaceutical treatment of chronic illnesses with nutritional, lifestyle and environmental changes to enhance ones innate ability to get well. She is particularly interested in improving primary care for patients suffering from depression and anxiety.
Wendy has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for almost 20 years. She has worked at Methodist Hospitals Emergency Department for most of that time. Her practice in Integrative Care started to emerge in 2010, after attending multiple conferences through Harvard's Institute of Lifestyle Medicine. It became apparent that most of her Emergency Department patients could have used some degree of lifestyle modification long before she saw them. For the last 2 years, Wendy has proposed and piloted a comprehensive Wellness Program for the employees of Methodist Hospital, while attending Methodist College for a post-masters certificate in Wellness and Health Promotion. This experience and education, along with a passion to care for the whole person, evolved into a natural partnership with Omaha Integrative Care. Wendys practice is based on the Integrative Care Model (which is not Alternative Healthcare); its an approach that addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that affect a persons health. Treatments that are natural and less invasive are used whenever possible. Health promotion and prevention of illness are at the forefront of this patient, family, and community-centered practice. Wendy can provide primary care for you and your family, or work in collaboration with your physician (to augment the care they already provide). Call for an appointment today and lets work together on a plan for your whole health. Wendy only sees Strada patients who are at least 13 years old.
Ann Wieseler is a board-certified family practice and acute-care nurse practitioner with over 5 years of experience in trauma and emergency medicine. Patient relationships were an integral part of Anns clinical rotation at a local family practice facility. It was here, that she recognized the value of integrative care and the importance of treating the whole person, not just physical symptoms. She loved developing a trusting relationship with the patients. This motivated her to join a practice where she could foster partnerships with her patients. Omaha Integrative Cares focus parallels Anns values that she wants to incorporate into everyday practice. Ann only sees Strada patients who are at least 13 years old. As a nurse practitioner at Omaha Integrative Care, Ann will independently diagnose and treat various illnesses and injuries, focusing on promoting health and preventing disease and illness while using a holistic patient-centered care model. Ann is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree at Creighton University, with the focus on bringing integrative medicine into advanced nursing practice. Her scholarly project will involve incorporating meditation practices in association with patient interactions, and measuring its impact on health outcomes. Utilizing integrative medicine, and incorporating social and behavioral disciplines, will allow for the achievement of optimal outcomes where the treatment of the whole person is the focus of care.
